Today, July 1, 2014, the minimum wage in the District of Columbia undergoes its first increase in a three-tiered hike, increasing to $9.50 per hour for all District employees.  The base minimum wage for tipped restaurant employees remains at $2.77 per hour.  By July 1, 2016, the minimum wage in the District will become $11.50 per hour, to be increased as follows:           

  • July 1, 2014: $9.50
  • July 1, 2015: $10.50
  • July 1, 2016: $11.50 

The District of Columbia will mail new D.C. Minimum Wage workplace posters to all employers in the District.  

Maryland is also set to increase its minimum wage rate up to $10.10 per hour, starting January 1, 2015.  Minimum wage increases in Maryland are slated to be rolled out as follows: 

  • January 1, 2015: $8.00
  • July 1, 2015:       $8.25
  • July 1, 2016:       $8.75
  • July 1, 2017:       $9.25
  • July 1, 2018:     $10.10
