GLAXOSMITHKLINE FACES FRESH DRUG BRIBERY CLAIMS IN SYRIA
GSK is facing further bribery allegations in the Middle East in relation to its Syrian sales following a series of similar claims in Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon (and also China and Poland). The pharmaceutical company is reportedly looking into fresh claims that illicit payments were made to doctors and officials at Syria's Ministry of Health before the consumer operations were closed in Syria in 2012 due to civil war.
SFO LAUNCHES FORMAL INVESTIGATION OF UAE BRIBERY CLAIMS AT SWEETT GROUP
In July, the SFO launched a formal investigation into the Sweett Group's Middle Eastern activities, exercising its powers under the Criminal Justice Act. Allegations surfaced in the Wall Street Journal in 2013 that a former employee of the Sweett Group had asked an architects' firm to bribe an official inside the UAE president’s personal foundation in order to secure a $100m building contract in Morocco that the foundation was supporting.
