On 10 October 2014, C. Gregory Turner, a resident of Chicago’s South Side, was convicted by a jury on  one count of sanctions violations for illegally lobbying on behalf of Zimbabwe government officials who are listed on the SDN List. He will be sentenced at a later hearing. Turner, together with Prince Asiel Ben Israel, also a resident of Chicago’s South Side, was accused of persuading Zimbabwean officials to pay $2.3 million to lobby against sanctions, based on claims that they had influence with President Obama and other US government officials. Ben Israel pleaded guilty in April and was sentenced to seven months in prison.
