Today, the U.S. Department of Education issued guidance giving schools four extra months to comply with requirements of the Gainful Employment (GE) rule.

The Department released Gainful Employment Electronic Announcement #105 which gives institutions until July 1, 2017 to “(1) submit an alternative earnings appeal to the GE Debt-to-Earnings rates that were released by the Department on January 9, 2017, and (2) comply with the GE program disclosure requirements as noted in Gainful Employment Electronic Announcement #103, published on January 19, 2017.” The Department is taking this step “to allow the Department to further review the GE regulations and their implementation.” This “review” could signal additional actions that will impact GE implementation. We will be watching developments closely.
