In response to consumer complaints, a North Carolina attorney and local elected official recently agreed to an injunction prohibiting him from handling client funds. Bill Sage, a veteran lawyer in the Tarheel state and mayor of Orient, N.C., agreed to the injunction sought by the North Carolina State Bar. The Consent Order also prohibits Sage from serving as an attorney or fiduciary, pending full investigation by the Bar.

Although Sage’s case may be notable because of his position as Mayor, it involves one of the most common problem areas for lawyers in ethical trouble: management of client funds.

Sage’s case was covered by local outlets, Compass News 360 and Towndock.net.
