EPA is seeking nominations for a small business advocacy review panel to advise the agency on the development of regulations for perchlorate under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The panel will include federal representatives from the Small Business Administration, Office of Management and Budget and EPA. Other representatives, including trade associations for potentially regulated small business entities, may also serve as small entity representatives. Self nominations may be submitted to EPA by August 26, 2011.
Perchlorate is both a naturally occurring and man-made chemical used to produce rocket fuel, fireworks, flares, and explosives. It can also be present in bleach and in some fertilizers. EPA has determined that perchlorate may cause adverse health effects and can occur in public water systems at levels of public health concern. See EPA Press Release, August 12, 2011.
