From 28 to 30 November 2007 the European Commission carried out unannounced inspections at the premises of various producers and importers of fresh exotic fruits. The Commission has not named any companies involved, nor the Member States where the raids were carried out. The Commission is concerned that companies may be involved in a cartel to fix prices. There is no strict deadline by which the Commission has to complete its cartel inquiries. The duration depends on a number of factors, including the complexity of each case, the extent to which the organisations concerned cooperate and the exercise of the rights of defence.
