Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI) appears set to become the new Chairman of the House Energy & Commerce Committee. The GOP Steering Committee gave the nod to Upton over Representatives Barton (R-TX), Shimkus (R-IL) and Stearns (R-FL). Upton is now in control of what many believe to be the most important committee in Congress. Upton’s priorities include repealing the health care law that passed earlier this year, an “all of the above” energy plan and critically examining the federal agencies under his committee’s jurisdiction. In a statement last night Upton said, “The Obama administration is on notice—they will not be allowed to regulate what they have been unable to legislate.”
