The European Commission has published a proposal to codify the Audio-Visual Media Services Directive (89/552/EEC) (AVMS Directive). The AVMS Directive has been amended twice by Directive 97/36/EC and Directive 2007/65/EC, which made substantial amendments and renamed the AVMS Directive (originally known as the Television with Frontiers Directive). Codification will mean that the original Directive and the two amending Directives will be superseded and replaced with one official consolidated version. This is likely to make reading the AVMS Directive easier.
