EBA has published the results of the 2011 bank stress test exercise. These show that, at the end of 2010, 20 banks would have fallen below the 5% Core Tier 1 Ratio threshold over the two-year horizon of the exercise, but following capital raising between January and April 2011 only eight banks would fail to meet the 5% threshold at the end of April. However, 16 more would be below 6%. EBA has recommended that supervisors of banks who do not meet the threshold should require the banks immediately to inject further appropriate capital, while those that are close to the threshold with significant exposure to sovereigns under stress should also  take specific steps to strengthen their capital position. The eight banks comprise two Greek banks, five Spanish and one Austrian. (Source: 2011 Bank Stress Test Results)
