From early December the new Homes and Communities Agency will begin operating. The new organisation will amalgamate the functions of the Housing Corporation and English Partnerships bringing together housing and regeneration into one national agency.

The nine regional directors and three corporate directors were recently appointed under the leadership of Sir Bob Kerslake, the agency’s chief executive.

Proposals for the organisation have been around for some time which was formally established following the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008 which received Royal Assent on 22 July 2008. The HCA will have 900 staff and an annual budget of around £5 billion making it the country’s single, national housing and regeneration agency.
