The Department of Homeland Security U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services reports that it will soon be publishing a new Employment Eligibility Verification Form (the Form I-9) and a new Handbook for Employers. The new form and handbook will be published in the Federal Register, reportedly by December 7, 2007, and employers will be required to use them after that date.
No major changes have been made to the documents. The most significant difference is that the new Form I-9 lists only those documents that are acceptable to establish identity and authorization to work, and references to documents that are no longer acceptable have been deleted.
