The Local Government Pension Scheme (Administration) (Amendment) Regulations 2008 (SI 2008/3245) contain amendments to the new Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), which came into existence on 1 April 2008. The purpose of the Regulations is:
- to provide that members of the LGPS who transfer employment to new unitary local authorities, following local government reorganisation on 1 April 2009, are not treated as if they were in a new employment, and thus have their LGPS membership from their former local authority employment treated as though it were deferred; and
- to identify as a consequence of local government reorganisation, the authorities responsible for administering the pension fund for the respective employing authorities. The Regulations come into force on 1 April.
