Following a $24 million judgment against Honeywell International Inc., the seat belt industry recovered with a win for TRW Vehicle Safety Systems Inc. In the case, a Texas jury concluded that a TRW-issued seat belt was not defective. The family of a fatal automobile accident victim filed the $10 million product liability suit against the company, alleging the front passenger-side seat belt unlatched during the accident and that the faulty seat belt was to blame for the fatality.
