1 July 2007 saw the introduction of the smoking ban, yet six months down the line employers do not appear to be implementing their policies in accordance with the 2006 Regulations. Failure to do so could result in possible prosecution.

Between July and November 2007 thousands of written notices were issued to employers for allowing people to smoke in their premises and failing to provide adequate no-smoking signs in their premises.

Employers could also be landed with hefty fines for not implementing the smoking regulations properly
