The European Commission (Commission) approved the proposed acquisition by Canon of its Dutch digital printer rival, Océ, on 22 December 2010. Both companies produce black & white and colour printers as well as large format printers. Nevertheless, the Commission's investigation disclosed that the market is characterised by a large variety of products with differences in price, speed, durability and functionality. In addition, within this market, the product ranges produced by the respective parties are largely complementary. Moreover, there are a number of competitors who will continue to offer stiff competition to the merged company in the EU.
