For some, 50 is a milestone that they would prefer to let slip by as quietly as possible. Not so for the Federal Trade Commission, which recently touted its 50th data security settlement.  This one involved GMR Transcriptions Services Inc., a company that allegedly failed to implement adequate security processes for its medical audio and transcript files, causing thousands of files to be accessible online by anyone.  The proposed settlement bars the company from future misrepresentations about its security practices, and requires it to implement a comprehensive information security program and undergo third-party audits regarding its program.
