The European Commission is investigating real estate restrictions in rural Ireland which have “locals-only laws” requiring potential homebuyers to have jobs in the area. The rules also apply to potential second home buyers who were born in the rural community or currently live just a few miles away…The Galway County Council gives potential buyers tests in Gaelic…Carrowdough in County Sligo doesn’t want any secondhome owners “cluttering up the countryside and causing house prices to rise so that local rural residents can’t buy them.”
