On 27 October 2014, the IAIS published an issues paper on combating bribery and corruption in the insurance sector. The paper considers the relevance of bribery and corruption to the sector and the role of insurance supervisors in combating those issues (including information on approaches taken to the issue by national supervisors, as reflected in a survey conducted during 2013). As part of its conclusions, the IAIS highlights the part that relevant governance and its 'Insurance Core Principles' can play in mitigating bribery and corruption risks. Also on 27 October, the IAIS published an issues paper on group corporate governance, in particular with regard to the impact of governance on control functions. The paper sets out key characteristics of good governance and illustrates how challenges to good governance and control can be addressed within groups.
