- Repeal of the statutory dispute resolution procedures
The statutory dispute resolution procedures will be repealed from 6 April 2009. The ACAS Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures replaces the statutory procedures and comes into force similarly, on 6 April 2009. Be aware of the transitional provisions however, which will regulate how you should proceed around this period (as set out in the February issue of Bite Size). The statutory procedures will still apply in certain circumstances.
- Extension of the right to request flexible working to parents of children aged 16 and under
The right to request flexible working is extended to include parents of children aged 16 and under (previously age 6 and 18 if child is disabled).
- Increase in statutory minimum paid holiday entitlement from 4.8 weeks to 5.6 weeks
The latest instalment of the Working Time (Amendment) Regulations 2007 came into force on 1 April 2009. Accordingly, this further increases the statutory minimum entitlement to annual leave from 4.8 weeks to 5.6 weeks (ie from 24 days to 28 days for an employee working five days per week). This is inclusive of bank holidays.
- Increase in Statutory Sick Pay and Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Pay
From 6 April 2009 Statutory Sick Pay increases from £75.40 to £79.15 per week and maternity, paternity and adoption pay increases from £117.18 to £123.06 per week.
