Republicans have decided to put an end to the House Select Committee on Energy Independence & Global Warming. Ranking member Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) announced the decision today at the committee’s final hearing. The committee was approved in March 2007 and saw Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) as its Chairman during its existence. The committee was one that Markey used to push for clean energy and his efforts to fight against climate change. Disappointed in the Republicans decision, Markey said at today’s hearing, “Some day our children and grandchildren will read the record of our committee . . . . Whether or not they see a solution remains to be seen.”
