Not surprisingly, foreign travellers to the United States, including Canadians, have been meeting with increased scrutiny as part of the U.S. focus on border security. There have been news reports of increased U.S. entry problems for Canadians and increased wait times at land borders.
A Canadian with a criminal record may be criminally inadmissible and may not be able to enter the United States unless a waiver from U.S. authorities is first obtained. Note that U.S. authorities do not recognize a Canadian pardon and therefore a Canadian who has obtained such a pardon may still be inadmissible. Waivers take a very long time to process, so if one is required, an application should be made many months in advance of the desired entry date.
