On 16 June 20, Paradigm Capital Management (“PCM”) and Candace King Weir, the company owner, were charged with engaging in a prohibited principal transaction and then retaliating against the employee who reported the trading activity to the SEC. These actions resulted in the employee resigning their position and leaving the company. Andrew J. Ceresney, Director of the SEC Enforcement Division stated “Those who might consider punishing whistle blowers should realise that any such retaliation, in any form, is unacceptable.” PCM and Ms Weir have jointly agreed to pay disgorgement of US $1.7 million and pre-judgment interest of US $181,771, alongside a penalty of US $300,000.
