The ITC recently announced that, pursuant to a request from the United States Trade Representative ("USTR"), it will investigate the economic effects of the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreement ("TTIP") agreement between the United States and the European Union ("EU"). The proposed agreement would eliminate duties and other trade barriers for trade between the United States and the twenty-seven EU members. The ITC's investigation will focus on the possible effects that elimination of import barriers under the agreement would have on the U.S. economy and its consumers. The ITC will hold a public hearing on June 5 as part of its investigation. Public comments on the TTIP are due to the ITC by June 18, 2013, and the ITC will issue its confidential report to the USTR by September 26, 2013.
