Thursday, January 26, 2017, Florida Senator Bill Galvano filed Senate Bill 532, which if passed would require companies to notify the Department of Environmental Protection ("DEP") about the "release of any dangerous substance" within 24 hours of discovering it. Once notified, DEP would then have 24 hours to release the information to the public. Companies that fail to comply could be fined up to $10,000 daily. If passed, the bill would be enacted July 1, 2017.
