At the end of last year, Energy and Resources Minister Gerry Brownlee announced a change to the review process for the review of the Crown Minerals Act 1991 and the review of associated minerals programmes and regulations which are now to be considered as a single package.

It was originally envisaged that the 2010 review of the Crown Minerals Act would be completed by November 2010, with a Bill introduced to Parliament in December 2010, and a second phase of consultation on revised minerals programmes and on the various regulations undertaken in 2011.

A revised review document proposing changes to the minerals programmes and regulations, as well as to the Crown Minerals Act, is expected to be released for public consultation by the end of April 2011.
