The American Society of International Law recently held a panel discussion on anti-corruption efforts in a multi-polar world. The conflicts presented by a multi-polar world were exemplified by Quartz, which noted the difficulty western firms face in Asia where corporations are expected to provide gifts and entertainment to government officials. Quartz focuses on the mining and extractive minerals industry which must also consider new rules from the European Commission. On April 9th, the E.C. reached agreement on the adoption of new disclosure requirements for the extractive industries which will be incorporated in revisions to the European Union's Accounting Directives and the Transparency Directive.
