At the first meeting of the FCC's newly re-chartered Consumer Advisory Committee, Acting-Chairman Michael Copps promised that the Commission would be more receptive to the Committee's recommendations than the agency has been in recent years. The Committee, which was recently re-chartered by former Chairman Kevin Martin, facilitates consumer participation in FCC proceedings and provides recommendations to the Commission on consumer issues. At the meeting, Copps vowed to restore the Committee's important advisory role. He emphasized his commitment by promising to convene a technical working group on DTV closed-captioning and video description issues, which the Committee has repeatedly recommended in the past. The next meeting date is March 4, 2009.
