In June, the Department of Defense, NASA  and GSA  issued revisions to government contracting regulations that will expand set-asides for women-owned small businesses.  This final rule formally institutes the interim rule, which was initially implemented in 2013.  The three agencies eliminated monetary restrictions for set-asides for both economically disadvantaged and traditional women-owned small businesses, which should have the intended effect of creating additional contracting opportunities under the women-owned small business program.  The change was mandated by the NDAA  for industries where women-owned businesses are underrepresented.  Effective immediately, contracting officers may set aside contracts at any dollar value, so long as the other requirements for a setaside under the women-owned small business program are met.
