The Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) published his annual report on 13 May 2009. The report notes that, while similar levels of complaints were received in 2009 and 2008, these figures represent a significant increase over those received in previous years, reflecting greater awareness among members of the public. The DPC also notes increased frequency of voluntary reporting of data security breaches. Other points of note include the DPC's comments on the implementation of the Data Protection Code of Practice for the Insurance Sector (the Code), referred to in the August edition of Tracker. Numerous queries have been received by the DPC from insurance companies on the Code's application to their organisations.
