The European Commission has launched a public consultation on corporate governance in financial institutions with a view to reforming corporate governance mechanisms in this sector.

The green paper aims to launch a debate on issues such as:  

  • Ensuring the Board of Directors is composed of a mixed group of people by enhancing gender diversity and professional backgrounds.
  • Enhancing shareholder involvement.
  • Improving monitoring and enforcement of existing corporate governance codes.

The consultation is open for responses until 22 July 2011.
