The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) recently launched its 2014 stress test for insurers. A webpage dedicated to the 2014 insurance stress tests can be found on the EIOPA website with access to background documents, stress test specifications, reporting templates and Q&A. Updates to the webpage will be made every Wednesday (which, to date, has included the addition of new documentation). Two test modules were announced to ascertain the strength and vulnerabilities of the insurance sector. The first (key) module will focus on adverse market scenarios covering financial asset stresses (e.g. corporate bonds, sovereigns and equities) and shocks to real estate asset prices and interest rates. The second module will address the impact of a low-yield environment. The deadline for submission of stress-test participants' data to their national supervisory authorities is 11 July 2014.
