To increase the efficiency of patent application procedures and expedite patent application review in both Taiwan and Japan, the two nations agreed in December 2013 to implement a patent priority documents electronic exchange program.  Through this program, a patent applicant who first files an application in one nation (e.g. Japan) and obtains an access code for the application will be deemed to have completed the submission of the priority documents in the other nation (Taiwan) upon submitting the access code of the first nation directly to the second nation by the deadline (i.e. within sixteen months from the earliest priority date).  The content of related documents will be obtained through exchange of electronic archives between the patent authorities.  3,354 cases have been benefited by this document exchange program since the implementation of this program through June this year.
