Commerce Committee

The Committee heard submissions on the Crown Minerals (Permitting and Crown Land) Bill. Submitters raised a number concerns with the Bill including environmental considerations, council rating of mining operations, and the Bill's decisionmaking provisions.  

Finance and Expenditure Committee

The Committee heard submissions on the Student Loan Scheme Amendment Bill (No 2). The New Zealand Union of Students' Associations is concerned that the Bill may disincentivise overseas borrowers from returning to New Zealand. The New Zealand Medical Students' Association submitted on concerns specific to its member students.

Government Administration Committee

The Committee continued to hear submissions on the Parental Leave and Employment Protection (Six Months' Paid Leave) Amendment Bill. The Children's Commissioner and UNICEF NZ submitted in support of the effort to extend paid parental leave.  

The Committee also heard from Louisa Wall MP on her Member's Bill: the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Bill, as well as from other submitters.  

Law and Order Committee

The Committee heard submissions on the Prohibition of Gang Insignia in Government Premises Bill, which raised issues including the Bill's impact on freedom of expression, the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act and Human Rights Act.

Local Government and Environment Committee

The Committee heard submissions on the Environment Canterbury (Temporary Commissioners and Improved Water Management) Bill. Submitters included Environment and Conservation Organisations, the Human Rights Commission and New Zealand Fish and Game Council.

Transport and Industrial Relations Committee

The Committee heard submissions on the Land Transport Management Amendment Bill. Submitters including the Greater Wellington Regional Council, the Institute of Professional Engineers of New Zealand and Generation Zero raised concerns with the Bill's purpose statement as well as other issues.
