Following its review of Unit Linked Whole of Life Policies in response to concerns raised by consumers, the FR has identified certain problem areas for insurers to address. These do not yet form part of any official guidance but the FR's views have been well publicised. One important observation is that delays by an insurer in carrying out a policy review (in accordance with policy terms and conditions) cannot result in a policyholder being placed in a worse financial position than if the policy review had occurred as scheduled. The FR has also emphasised the need for appropriately detailed product suitability statements in light of the longterm and potentially volatile nature of such policies.
