This recent Eric Pickles press release may bring good news to those considering investing in London property or looking to expand the use of properties already in their portfolio - or even just their home.

As matters stand, legislation (s25 Greater London Council (General Powers) Act 1973) deems lets of residential properties for less than 90 days a change of use which requires planning permission, but the Deregulation Bill is set to be amended to scrap that.

It still will not be possible to change the use of a property from residential to a hotel without planning permission, but other options could soon exist allowing short term rentals to take place without the burden of seeking planning approval.
