With the November election of the Saskatchewan Party under Premier Brad Wall, SaskPower has shifted away from carbon capture and storage technology and toward nuclear power. The Saskatchewan Party holds 65% of the parliamentary seats and favors nuclear power over CCS. SaskPower had been one of the leaders in Canada pushing for CCS technology, however, their plans began to change earlier this year, in large part due to the time that it would take to deploy CCS technology quickly enough to meet rising electricity demands.
