The Judicial Executive Board has decided to establish a further judicial working group to review the original proposals in the consultation paper on McKenzie friends. The initial consultation was set up in response to the rise in recent years in the number of litigants in person and McKenzie friends. The consultation was aimed at addressing issues in respect of the regulation, conduct and remuneration of McKenzie friends.

It is possible that there will be a further increase to the number of McKenzie Friends if the proposed whiplash reforms and increases to the small claims tracks for motor and casualty claims are implemented.

A formal response to the consultation is eagerly awaited.
