Today, Iceland’s Prime Minister announced “the resignation of the coalition government of the Independence Party and the Social Democratic Alliance.” Iceland’s President, which is largely a ceremonial role, has requested that “the outgoing government remains in office until a new government is formed.” Despite a $5.1 billion bailout provided by the IMF and other nations in November and other financial assistance, Iceland has not been able to recover from the October collapse of its banking system.
