ESMA wants to see harmonised European regulatory action on short-selling. It made a statement after Belgium, France, Italy and Spain announced new bans on short-selling or short positions. It said it had been in constant discussion with regulators and was working to ensure measures were as harmonised as possible in the absence of EU level requirements and given the differing legal frameworks in each Member State.
