In response to a request from the White House Office of Management and Budget the USDA's Rural Utilities Service (RUS) has announced the suspension of a loan program for coal-fired power plants. In announcing the suspension, the Assistant Administrator of the RUS cited uncertainties about climate risk related to coal-fired power, as well as rising material and labor costs, as driving OMB's request. The suspension of the program comes on the heels of RUS's recent withdrawal of loans to projects in Wyoming and Missouri.
