Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB) of India stated that the word ‘xerox’ has not become a generic term.

Petitioners contented that ‘xerox’ has become a common word which has caused the company to lose its distinctiveness. However, as per IPAB decision - ‘xerox’ is not synonymous with photocopying. The board has rejected the applications filed against registration of Xerox as trademark and said that ‘xerox’ has not become generic.
