The UPC preparatory committee has announced that it is working to an opening date for the court in December 2017. This announcement adds that the provisional period (in which European patent opt-outs can start to be registered) would be expected to begin in May 2017. This latest timeline is dependent on a number of factors, in particular the ratification of the UPC Agreement and the Protocol on Privileges and Immunities. The UK confirmed on 28 November that it would ratify this instrument, despite Brexit.
