The FSA has published an update on the Retail Distribution Review (RDR). The update provides a summary of a recent FSA speech on the RDR (The FSA’s retail strategy by Clive Briault on 27 February 2008). It also provides a more detailed update on the FSA’s Interim Statement on the RDR which is to be published this April.

The FSA states that the Interim Statement will concentrate on areas which look promising for market led changes, but on which it needs further evidence, to undertake more analysis, or to have further dialogue. This may include areas such as:

  • Primary advice, which may now be evolving into “guided sales” or “assisted purchase”.
  • The development of guiding principles for remuneration.
  • How best to deliver in practice the general agreement on the need for higher standards of professionalism.
