The Ontario government recently passed the Lake Simcoe Protection Act, which
amends the Ontario Water Resources Act to establish a framework for protecting Lake
Simcoe. Among other things, the amendments require that the Ontario government
create a Lake Simcoe Protection Plan that would set priorities and targets for addressing threats to the lake, including climate change, invasive species, habitat loss and excessive
discharges of phosphorus and other pollutants.
