American Electric Power Co. has received the final air permit needed to move forward with a 600 MW coal-fired power plant in Arkansas. That plant will cost $1.5 billion, and will be one of the first to use ultra-supercritical technology. This technology will allow for greater efficiency and reduced emissions levels. The plant is also being built with the ability to add carbon capture and storage technology, if it is needed, under new emissions regulations. Construction will begin immediately with the goal for the plant to be online by the end of 2012.
