WorkSafe has proposed changes to the ACT's WHS Act which would involve requiring all ACT construction workers, as well as certain workers in related industries, to undergo asbestos-awareness training. Currently, 'PCBUs' (persons conducting a business or undertaking) are required to provide adequate information and training to workers to enable them to identify asbestos, be aware of where it is likely to be located, know what to do when it is found, and understand its dangers. WorkSafe has proposed that the new course, Asbestos Awareness 10314 NAT, be mandatory for all construction workers from early 2014.
