Federck C. Petro, the former president of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 2094, was ordered by a U.S. district court judge to serve six months house arrest followed by three years of probation for stealing union members’ dues. From February 2006 to July 2008, he wrote himself about 187 checks totaling about $112,000.


Hector Lopez, the former president of Metal Polishers, Buffers and Platers Local 8A-28A in New York City, was sentenced to four years in prison for mail and wire fraud conspiracy and tax evasion in a case alleging that he took kickbacks embezzled from the local's welfare fund. Mr. Lopez was also was ordered to pay $800,371 in restitution and forfeit another $371,517 to the federal government.


Oscar Berry, former president of Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers Local 284 in Longview, Texas, has been sentenced to one year and one day of incarceration and three years of supervised release for embezzling union funds. From 2000 to 2011, Berry issued unauthorized union checks to himself and used the funds for personal expenses and gifts to relatives and friends. In addition to his prison and supervised release sentences, Berry was ordered to pay $124,181 in restitution.
