The British Retail Consortium is to carry out a study to assess the take-up and impact of the latest edition of the Commercial Lease Code, launched in March this year. The survey will ask retail tenants, landlords, surveyors and solicitors about their use of the code and its effectiveness. The consortium plans to produce its first report on the operation of the code in the autumn. It will use the study to determine whether in its view new ways to promote take-up of the code need to be found.
The take-up of previous editions of the code has been monitored on behalf of the government by the University of Reading.
