The first Equality Public Service Agreement has been published by the Government Equalities Office.

It is a three-year plan of key actions the Government has identified in certain priority areas, including the gender pay gap, increasing the employment chances of disabled people, and discrimination in employment.

Although relatively light on how the objectives will be achieved, it does help give an idea of what the Government’s plans for the next three years involve, and identifies legislation as one of the key actions for the immediate future. Indeed, in this document it is possible to identify the expected contents of the draft Equality Bill, announced in June of this year by the Government Minister for Women and Equality.

Equality legislation, therefore, is certainly on the cards and will no doubt affect employers in its scope and content.
